What to check on a leasehold property
Your lawyer can check the title and explain these points before you pay more than the booking deposit.
- How many years are left on the lease, not just the original term.
- What the renewal conditions are, and whether any consent or payment applies.
- Whether any conditions apply when the property is transferred to a new owner.
- How the remaining lease may affect bank financing for that unit.
Freehold is not automatically better
Many buyers prefer freehold because it has no expiry, but price, location, the project and the remaining lease all matter. This page does not forecast prices.
